What is the impact of allies on how social movements are perceived? Can diverse coalitions help disadvantaged group members expand their influence, and at what potential cost?
This project examines how male allies in women's movements are seen by both men and women, and how the presence of allies shapes expectations about whether a movement will succeed.
Gender, repression, and the visibility of protest
With Tamar Mitts
How do gendered claims and state repression shape which protest messages attract attention?
Focusing on Iran’s 2022 Woman, Life, Freedom uprising, we examine how movements communicate with domestic and international audiences and explore how content related to gender, violence, and international solidarity shapes local and international engagement. Using large-scale social media data collected in real time, we trace how language and images shape the visibility of resistance in authoritarian settings.
Belonging across group lines

How do institutions shape interaction, inclusion, and belonging across groups in conflict?
Using field experiments and qualitative research, this project explores the barriers minorities encounter as they navigate majority institutions, focusing on Palestinian students in Jerusalem.
